EDEN WHALE FESTIVAL

The Eden Whale Festival is an annual event, highlighting the southern migration of the humpback and other whales. If you want to get up close and personal with these magnificent animals, there is no better place to be in Australia than Eden on the NSW south coast.
The whales can be seen in large numbers in the town's stunning Twofold Bay, whether you are in a boat or, indeed, just from the shore.
For one weekend each year, the rich maritime and whaling history of this port on Australia's Coastal Wilderness becomes the centrepiece for a weekend that somehow seamlessly links all things whale. There's a spectacular street parade, vibrant markets showcasing and selling the work of local artisans, great local food and wine, educational marine displays and presentations, quality children's entertainment, live music, and - of course - the best whale watching experience in Australia.

Eden Fishing

Fishing in Eden

Access to great game, reef and sport fishing is made easy at Quarantine Bay just 3 km south of Eden. The triple lane boat ramp has fish cleaning tables, a floating wharf and boat washing facilities. There are no bars or shallow reefs to cross at Quarantine Bay, so ocean access is safe and easy.

Game Fishing Eden is an excellent spot for game fishing from December to May. Hot currents from the north swirl down, quite often getting caught in behind Greencape, which pushes the warm water in very close to shore. Eden is a well renowned Tuna port having based the Heinz Cannery for many years before it closed. Land based game fishing is also well known down here, fishing from the Pulpit and City Rocks in Ben Boyd National Park. Likely catches are Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna and Sharks. Tag and release is encouraged.

Reef fishing in Eden is excellent, as there are so many places to fish with great expanses all the way down to Greencape and Disaster Bay. There is nearly always good refuge to fish in any prevailing winds. With no dangerous bar crossing to worry about and good catches of Snapper, Morwong, Leather Jacket, Nannygai, Flathead and Gummy Sharks.

Wide Reef Fishing Eden has excellent deep reefs from 50-250 fathoms for the keen dropliner chasing fish from Morwong and Leather Jacket to Trevally, Ling and Hapuka.

Sports Fishing there are only two spots on the Sapphire Coast that offer Kingfish in good numbers and they are Montague Island, near Narooma, and Mowarry Point, south of Eden from December to July. These prestigious, hard fighting monsters can be found up to 20kg, which test out the angler and the tackle to the limit.

Estuary Fishing Sweeping tidal estuaries, deep brackish holes and clear rivers mean a bream rod is essential to your tool kit. While a tinny or kayak will get you into some amazing places, your own two feet will do almost as good. Try one of the many lakes systems – Wonboyn, Curalo, Broadwater, Nullica, rivers at Towamba and Yowaka.

Rock Fishing Head to Ben Boyd National Park for your rock fishing fix. Haycock Point, North Head and Green Cape are the hot spots. Rock fishing can be dangerous, never turn your back on the ocean.

Beach Fishing Long Beach, within the pristine Ben Boyd National Park North, will provide anglers with lots of fun especially with the salmon and tailor. Other beaches worth a try include Aslings, Saltwater Boyd Town and Wonboyn Beaches.
Other Fishing Youngsters have tremendous fun fishing off our wharves either at Snug Cove or across the Bay at the Navy Wharf (open when shipping schedules allow). A small hook will yield plenty of, slimy mackerel and trevally.
